Haein Lee is a landscape architect and urban planner who works in both the language of design and the language of policy. As founder and principal of HLD, a landscape and urban design studio, she treats design as a means of addressing spatial and social problems.

She has established new standards for public green space in Seoul through the city's Open Green Space, Elevated Park, and Multi-level Garden City guidelines, and has led planning work at the urban scale including the Seoul Green Network Masterplan and the Namsan Area Revitalization Plan. Among these, the Green Ecological City Center Masterplan earned HLD the Excellence Award in the Attractive Seoul Category at the 10th Seoul Construction Award in 2025.

Alongside her practice in design and planning, she has taken part in public review and advisory roles. She currently serves on the Seoul Architecture Committee, and previously served as a Seoul Public Landscape Architect, a member of the Seoul Urban Regeneration Committee, and a technical review advisor to Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation. She is also active in the Korea Landscape Architecture Association and related professional bodies.

She holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from Harvard University and a Master of City Planning from the University of California, Berkeley. Before founding HLD, she worked on the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) at Zaha Hadid Architects in Seoul, and practiced landscape and urban design at AECOM and Populous in San Francisco.

In 2018 she was named, together with Hoyoung Lee, among the 1st Young Landscape Architects. She received the Honorable Landscape Architect Award at the 19th Landscape Architecture Day in 2022, and the Korea Heritage Service Administrator's Commendation at the 23rd Landscape Architecture Day in 2026.
